What are the chances of a dental implant failing?
Dental implants have an excellent success rate when planned carefully and well looked after.
In healthy non-smokers, long-term success rates are typically above 95%, meaning most implants function comfortably for many years. However, no surgical treatment is completely risk-free, and a small proportion of implants may fail to bond fully with the bone or later lose support due to gum disease, heavy grinding, or poor oral hygiene.
You’ll receive maintenance advice and will usually be encouraged to attend regular hygiene visits to protect the tissues around your implant.
If a problem develops, early intervention, such as treating peri-implantitis, adjusting your bite, or using a nightguard, can often save the implant or allow it to be replaced.
