Is Invisalign painful at first?
Most patients describe the first few days with new Invisalign aligners as “pressure” or tightness rather than sharp pain. Discomfort is usually mild to moderate, peaking in the first 1–3 days of each new tray while your teeth start to move, then settling quickly as your mouth adapts.
Because Invisalign uses smooth plastic and no brackets or wires, it tends to cause less rubbing of cheeks and lips than traditional braces. You might notice temporary tenderness when chewing and, in some cases, a slight lisp that usually resolves within a week.
Simple measures such as switching to a new aligner at night, eating softer foods, and using over‑the‑counter pain relief if needed can make the adjustment much easier.
