Dental Implants Before and After

A full mouth restoration with multiple implants and a full set of crowns

How are Dental Implants fitted?

When you visit us for an initial dental implant consultation, we’ll discuss your needs and recommend the implant solutions that best suit you.

We will then undertake an oral health assessment. Good oral hygiene and healthy gums give your operation the best chance of success and help avoid dental infections and more severe complications.

If you have any oral health issues, such as tooth decay, gingivitis, or gum disease, our Dental Hygienist will help you address them before the surgery.

Our state-of-the-art scanning machine will take multiple scans and X-rays of your mouth and jaw, producing high-resolution 3D images of your mouth, including teeth, jaws, soft tissue, and bones – all with high levels of detail to enable precision planning to help fit your implant.

On the day of your surgery, we use a simple procedure to place the titanium screw in your jawbone. We’ll then place a temporary crown or bridge to fill the gap while you wait for the implant to heal. If you currently wear dentures, you can continue wearing them.

Dental Implants FAQ

What are dental Implants?

Teeth implants are artificial tooth roots placed in your jawbone that serve as a base for fixing Crowns, Bridges or Dentures. Implants fuse with your jawbone, making them more or less permanent.

How long do dental Implants last?

Dental implant treatment has been used to replace missing teeth since the early 1960s and is one of the dentistry industry’s most researched and advanced treatment areas.

Recent research shows that over 95% of well-placed and looked-after implants should last a lifetime.

Are there any downsides to dental Implants?

Over 95% of dental implant procedures are successful.

One problem that can occur is an implant failing during the healing stage, requiring a new implant.

However, poor oral hygiene or gum disease can also contribute to implant failure.

Is an Implant procedure painful?

Local anaesthetic is used to carry out the procedure so that there is no pain during the surgery. If you prefer, we can also offer you Sedation.

What happens after Implant treatment?

After your appointment, your face may feel slightly swollen or tender for a few days, and you may be prescribed antibiotics to prevent any infections.

For the first two weeks:

Try to avoid physical exertion. Sports, heavy lifting, etc.

Try to avoid alcohol and spicy/acidic food.

You’ll then have a follow-up appointment with us after 14 days for a check-up and to have your stitches removed.

The human body tolerates titanium very well, and the implants will bond with your jawbone over the next 6 months.

We can then fit your new permanent Dental Crown, Dental Bridge or Dentures.

It’s normal for your new crown to feel a little uncomfortable when first put in, and it will ‘pinch’ the gum a bit for the first day, but you’ll quickly adjust.

It will also likely feel pretty huge in your mouth after having an empty space there for so long, but you’ll quickly get used to it, and it will feel completely normal, like a regular tooth.
