Rebuild Your Jawbone Without External Referrals

Stem-Cell-Based Synthetic Bone Material.

Safely Increase Jawbone Density for Implant Success.

Dr Bronkhorst brings 40 years of expertise to perform your Bone Graft right here in Plymouth—no outside referrals needed.

A dental bone graft involves using stem-cell-based synthetic material to increase the volume of your jawbone. This prompts your body to form new bone, and after a year or two, it is completely replaced by your own natural bone.

Although healing can take several months, it ensures long-term implant success.

If you’re concerned about the cost, we offer affordable financing plans, including 0% finance, starting from less than £15 per week.

Dental Bone Grafts FAQ

What is a dental bone graft, and why might I need one?

When you lose a tooth or have an extraction, the jawbone in that area can naturally begin to shrink and resorb over time. A dental bone graft is a routine oral surgery procedure that rebuilds and strengthens the jawbone.

If you are planning to have dental implants fitted at our Plymouth clinic but our 3D scans show that your jawbone is currently too thin or soft to support the titanium post, a bone graft can provide the strong, stable foundation required for a successful implant.

How long does a bone graft take to heal before I can get my dental implant?

Patience is key to a successful implant journey. After the grafting material is placed, it typically takes between three and six months for it to fully fuse with your natural jawbone, a process known as osseointegration.

During your follow-up appointments at our Lockyer Road clinic, we will closely monitor your healing progress to determine the optimal time to safely place your permanent dental implant.

Who will perform my bone graft surgery at the clinic?

Your oral surgery will be meticulously planned and carried out by our Principal Dentist, Dr Lenore Bronkhorst.

Celebrating 40 years in dentistry, Dr Bronkhorst is an internationally trained cosmetic and restorative dentist with advanced, specialist training in placing dental implants and performing complex bone grafts and sinus lifts right here in Britain’s Ocean City.

Is the dental bone grafting procedure painful?

We understand that the thought of a bone graft can sound daunting, but your comfort is our absolute priority. The procedure is performed using a highly effective local anaesthetic, ensuring the surgical site is completely numb and you feel no pain.

For patients with dental anxiety, our Mutley Plain clinic offers a deeply calming environment, and we can provide gentle dental sedation to help you remain entirely relaxed throughout your visit.

Where do the bone grafting materials come from?

We use only the highest quality, thoroughly sterilised, and biocompatible grafting materials. Depending on your specific clinical needs, Dr Bronkhorst may recommend using safe synthetic bone materials, highly processed animal (bovine) bone minerals, or occasionally, a small amount of your own bone tissue.

We will discuss all these options with you in detail during your consultation to ensure you are fully informed and comfortable.

Where is your Plymouth dental clinic located for my surgery?

You will find our state-of-the-art practice at 7 Lockyer Road, just a short walk from Mutley Plain in Plymouth (PL3 4RL). We are conveniently positioned for patients travelling from across the city, including Plympton, Stoke Village, and Derriford.

There is convenient on-street parking directly outside our doors (please note it is permit-only between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm). Alternatively, the Mutley Barracks and Napier Terrace car parks are just 100 metres away and offer two hours of free parking.

Can I have the bone graft and the dental implant placed on the same day?

In some cases, if you require only a very minor bone graft, Dr Bronkhorst may be able to place the grafting material and the dental implant simultaneously during a single surgical appointment.

However, for more significant bone loss, the graft must first be allowed to heal and solidify for several months. We use our high-resolution 3D digital scanner to assess your jaw structure and decide the safest, most effective approach for you.

Will I be without a tooth while my bone graft heals?

Not at all. We know how important a complete smile is for your daily confidence.

If we are replacing a visible tooth, we can provide a temporary cosmetic solution, such as a temporary bridge or a lightweight partial denture, for you to wear comfortably while your jawbone heals and prepares for the final implant placement.

Do I need an NHS referral to get a bone graft with you?

No referral is required. We warmly welcome private patients from all over the South West peninsula. Because Dr Bronkhorst has the advanced training to perform complex bone grafts and sinus lifts in-house, you will not need to be referred out to a separate hospital or specialist clinic.

Many of our patients travel across the Tamar from Saltash, Torpoint, and beyond to access our comprehensive, under-one-roof implant services.
