Emergency Dentist FAQ

How quickly can I get an emergency dental appointment in Plymouth?

If you are experiencing severe toothache, bleeding, or facial swelling, we offer same-day emergency dental appointments at our Plymouth clinic.

Located on Lockyer Road, just off Mutley Plain, we strive to see urgent cases as quickly as possible.

Simply call our reception team on 01752 662929, and we will find the earliest available slot to provide you with immediate pain relief.

Do I need to be a registered patient to use your Plymouth emergency dentist service?

Not at all. We welcome non-registered patients from across Britain’s Ocean City—including Plympton, Plymstock, Derriford, and Stoke Village—as well as those travelling in from Saltash, Torpoint, or Ivybridge.

No referral is necessary to access our private emergency care. Contact us directly to book your visit.

How much does a private emergency dental appointment cost?

Our private emergency dental appointments start from £150. This covers the initial clinical assessment by our Principal Dentist, Dr Lenore Bronkhorst, as well as the immediate steps needed to diagnose your issue and stabilise your pain.

If further treatments, such as an emergency root canal or an extraction, are required, we will always provide a transparent breakdown of any additional fees before proceeding.

What qualifies as a dental emergency?

You should contact an emergency dentist immediately if you have persistent, severe tooth pain that prevents you from sleeping or eating, noticeable facial or neck swelling (which can indicate a serious dental abscess), uncontrolled bleeding following an extraction, or a knocked-out tooth.

We also provide urgent care for broken teeth, lost fillings, chipped front teeth, and snapped brace wires.

I’m a nervous patient with a dental emergency. What are my options?

We specialise in treating nervous and dental-phobic patients in a calm, welcoming environment.

We offer highly effective sedation options, including “Laughing Gas” (a mixture of Oxygen and Nitrous Oxide) or Intravenous (IV) Sedation, to ensure you feel completely relaxed and at ease whilst receiving your urgent treatment.

I’ve chipped my front tooth. Can a cosmetic dentist fix this on the same day?

Yes, we handle cosmetic dental emergencies rapidly. If you have a chipped or broken front tooth, we can frequently use composite bonding to restore your smile seamlessly in a single visit.

For more extensive damage, we utilise our state-of-the-art CEREC porcelain milling machine, allowing us to create and fit a permanent ceramic crown or veneer in less than an hour.

Can you prescribe antibiotics for a tooth infection or dental abscess?

Absolutely. If you present with a dental abscess or a severe infection, our first priority is to drain the infection and relieve your pain.

We are fully equipped to dispense antibiotics directly on-site at our practice, saving you a trip to a local pharmacy and ensuring you can start your medication straight away.

Where can I park when visiting your dental practice on Lockyer Road?

Finding parking near our clinic is stress-free. There is on-street parking right outside our premises on Lockyer Road (please note this is permit-only between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday).

Alternatively, we are just a short 100-metre walk from Mutley Plain, where both the Mutley Barracks and Napier Terrace car parks offer two hours of free parking.

What should I do if a dental crown or veneer falls out?

A lost crown or bridge can leave your underlying tooth incredibly sensitive and vulnerable to damage. Please keep the restoration safe and contact us immediately.

We can frequently re-cement loose crowns or bridges during a brief emergency appointment.

If your veneer or crown is broken, our in-house CEREC technology allows us to mill a precise, beautiful replacement while you wait.

Are you open for emergency dental treatments at weekends?

Our standard clinic hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:30 am to 5:15 pm, and Friday from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Whilst we are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, we highly recommend calling our clinic as soon as the lines open on Monday morning to secure one of our reserved same-day emergency slots for fast, effective relief.
