Advanced Sinus Lifts in Plymouth

Do you need upper jaw dental implants but lack sufficient bone height?

By safely elevating the sinus membrane and adding synthetic bone to create a secure foundation for your future implants, a sinus lift is a more advanced procedure if there’s not enough bone height in your upper jaw or your sinuses are too close to your jaw for dental implants to fit.

Mannamead Cosmetic Dental Centre can perform complex sinus lifts entirely in-house, without the hassle of outside referrals.

Our Principal Dentist, Dr Lenore Bronkhorst, is an internationally trained Cosmetic Dentist who has just celebrated 40 years in dentistry.

Dr Bronkhorst has advanced training in placing Dental Implants, is an experienced Invisalign Provider, and has a special interest in Sedation for nervous patients.

From our state-of-the-art clinic near Mutley Plain, we serve patients from across Ocean City, including Plympton, Plymstock, Stoke Village and Derriford, and are conveniently located for those travelling from Saltash, Torpoint and Ivybridge.

In-House Sinus Lift Surgery Without External Referrals

Innovative Stem-Cell-Based Synthetic Bone.

Safely Increase Upper Jaw Volume.

Dr Bronkhorst brings 40 years of expertise to perform your Sinus Lift right here in Plymouth—no outside referrals needed.

A Sinus Lift is where synthetic bone is added between your jaw and the sinuses on either side of your nose so that there’s enough bone for your implant to be fitted. The sinus membrane has to be elevated, or “lifted,” to make room for the new bone.

If you’re concerned about the cost, we offer affordable financing plans, including 0% finance, starting from less than £15 per week.

Sinus Lifts FAQ

What is a sinus lift, and why might I need one before getting dental implants in Plymouth?

A sinus lift (or sinus augmentation) is a highly specialised bone grafting procedure for the upper jaw. If you are missing teeth at the back of your upper jaw, your sinus cavity can naturally expand, leaving too little bone to safely anchor a titanium dental implant.

A sinus lift gently raises the sinus membrane and adds high-quality grafting material beneath it, creating a strong, deep foundation of bone to securely hold your future implants.

How long does it take to recover from a sinus lift procedure?

The initial healing period is relatively quick. You may experience mild swelling or tenderness around your upper cheek for a few days, which can be managed with standard over-the-counter painkillers and by avoiding strenuous activity.

However, the internal healing process—where the new grafting material fuses with your natural jawbone—takes time. We typically wait between four and nine months for the bone to become incredibly strong before fitting your implants.

Is sinus lift surgery painful? I suffer from dental anxiety.

It is completely natural to feel nervous about oral surgery, but your comfort is our absolute priority. The procedure is performed using a highly effective local anaesthetic, ensuring you feel no pain whatsoever.

For patients with severe dental anxiety, our Mutley Plain clinic provides a deeply calming environment, and we offer dental sedation so you can remain entirely relaxed and stress-free throughout the procedure.

Who will carry out my sinus augmentation procedure?

Your surgery will be meticulously planned and performed by our Principal Dentist, Dr Lenore Bronkhorst. Celebrating 40 years in dentistry, Dr Bronkhorst is an internationally trained cosmetic and restorative dentist.

Crucially, she has advanced specialist training in complex bone grafts and sinus lifts, so you receive world-class surgical care right here in Britain’s Ocean City without needing a hospital referral.

Where is your clinic located, and where can I park for my surgery?

You will find our state-of-the-art practice at 7 Lockyer Road, just a short walk from Mutley Plain in Plymouth (PL3 4RL). We are incredibly easy to reach, whether you are travelling from Derriford, Plympton, or Stoke Village.

There is convenient on-street parking directly outside our doors (please note it is permit-only between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm). Alternatively, the Mutley Barracks and Napier Terrace car parks are just 100 metres away and offer two hours of free parking.

Do you use digital technology to plan my sinus lift?

Yes, precision is vital for a successful sinus lift. We do not rely on guesswork or traditional flat X-rays. Before any surgery begins, we utilise our state-of-the-art, high-resolution 3D CBCT scanner.

This advanced digital imaging allows Dr Bronkhorst to meticulously measure the exact height and width of your existing jawbone and precisely map the shape of your sinus cavity, ensuring the safest and most effective surgical approach.

Can I have my dental implants placed on the same day as my sinus lift?

This depends entirely on the current condition of your upper jawbone. If you have sufficient existing bone to stabilise the implant, Dr Bronkhorst can occasionally perform a sinus lift and place the dental implant in the same surgical appointment.

However, if your bone is particularly thin, the sinus lift graft must heal and solidify for several months before the implant can be safely placed.

Will I be left without a tooth while the sinus graft heals?

Not at all. We understand that a complete smile is essential for your confidence and daily life.

While we wait for your sinus lift to heal and fully integrate, we can provide a comfortable, temporary cosmetic solution, such as a lightweight partial denture or a temporary bridge, so you can continue to smile and socialise normally in Plymouth as you prepare for your permanent implants.

Do I need an NHS referral to get a sinus lift with you?

No referral is required. Because we have advanced in-house expertise to perform complex sinus lifts and bone grafts, we warmly welcome private patients from all over the South West peninsula.

Many of our patients travel across the Tamar from Saltash, Torpoint, and beyond to access our comprehensive, under-one-roof implant services. Simply contact our reception team to book your initial consultation.
